You guys need Fon

Philip points us to The ethics of stealing a wifi . I too love the sprinkler anlogy.

However Ploum in the comments is right about being afraid of the morons that are proud to say that they used the open wifi of their neighbor to download movies and they took away all of the monthly 15Go limit in a few days !

Thats why you should use Fon. it gives you both bandwith limitation,
security, logging and other things. You get to see who has been using your AP , for how long, how frequent etc .. You can Limit the bandwith someone uses. etc. And because off course you choose to be a Linus, you get to surf on other peoples connections when roaming around.
What else would you be running on a Linksys ?

LinuxDays.lu 2008

The nice folks over in Luxembourg just posted the schedule for their Linuxdays 2008 conference.
I`ll be talking about MySQL High Availability

I was at LinuxDays.lu already 2 years ago and I remember it as a nice an cosy conf with an interesting combo of tutorials and conference talks. If you are in the neigborhood its worth the time.

Oh .. and you can also see Matt in action again :)

Complexity in Virtualization Opinions

Tarry
needed a full page to explain that there is no way you can keep up documenting or building a product on top of a proprietary product such as VMWare because they will change things you depend on behind your back.

What I still don't get however is why he keeps interviewing people from exactly these kind of companies.. companies that build on top of proprietary software that have little added value themselves. Yet he gives them good advise however..

But I`m wondering how much of a disaster tourist he really is :)

multipage pager

Dear Lazyweb,

A couple of weeks ago I figured out how to create a multipage form , then some weeks later I figured out how to create a paged resultset

Tomorrow I`ll continue looking for a way to combine them both, but maybe the layzyweb can work while I`m sleeping

Yasn, but something totally different

So the last couple of weeks we've been laughing at different new social networks .. wondering what the use of all those seemingly identical services is as we were looking for that killer extra service they are offering and why on earth (apart from identdity protection) we would want to sign up with with it.

Now Luke just pointed to Puppet being added on Ohloh. I remembered Ohloh and decided it deserved a second look.

I was positively surprised.. Ohloh lets you "stack" the Open Source projects you use then it suggests you with people that use similar tools, or similar tools.

If you stack Drupal it suggests you alternatives you don't need :)

But it also shows you a list of the Top Contributors

If you are an active contributor to a project there is more , it calculates your experience based on your commits in projects.. heck.. not really accurate as it lists me with 3 months C/C++ experience . And you can get Kudo's for your work :)

Now all it needs is being able to link with your friends so you can figure out what tools they are using :)
