MythFrontend for Mac OS X PPC/Intel

So when you're done playing with KVM and Xen for the weekend.. what possible use is there for your MacMini ?

Indeed.. use it as a MythTV Frontend.

The packages on this site for MythTV 0.19 work, I found some others on the web that gave me sound but no vision, and also gave a DecompressSequenceFrameWhen failed error.
but these just work.

etbe: meeting people at Linux conferences

Russel Coker
blogs about "a better way" to meet people at Linux conferences.
He suggest people should buy speakers dinner ;)

Actually I can't remember the day we started doing this.. it must have been ages ago.
And I also don't even remember which developers I bought dinner already ..
(I`m not even gonna try listing at which conferences I paid the bills)

But .. is that so unusual ? I have a couple of collegues that also just do this.. they go out after a conference and buy the core members of their favourite project some drinks or food, just because they appreciate what others are doing.

Pre Fosdem

So what exactly happened at the Roi D'Espagne, there were some kids throwing stuff but I saw them leaving.
By the time Matt and I got back from the car to drop off his stuff the crowd was flooding out.
Anyone knows ?

LinkedIn: Q&A: Received

Reuven send out a :Peer Review Request: Draft VMcasting Specification Published - VMcasting.org via LinkedIn

For anyone interested in virtual server technology and virtual appliance deployments. We have just published a draft VMcasting specification and are actively seeking input and review at http://www.vmcasting.org

VMcasting Overview
VMcasting is an automatic virtual machine deployment specification based on RSS2.0 whereby virtual machine images (also known as virtual appliances) are transferred from a server to a client, securely delivering files containing a technical specification and virtual disk image. VMcasting together with virtual appliance formats eliminate the need to separately install, configure and manage interdependencies between virtualized operating systems and applications. Rather then updating single virtual machines, large groups of virtual machines can be delivered at once using a standard definition and process.

StorageMojo Everything You Know About Disks Is Wrong

I've said it before and I will continue saying so Raid Doesn't work.

Now StorageMojo reports Everything You Know About Disks Is Wrong based on the Usenix Paper
Disk Failures in the Real World: What Does an MTTF of 1,000,000 Hours Mean to You? which summarrizes to the same conclusion.

Further, these results validate the Google File System's central redundancy concept: forget RAID, just replicate the data three times. If I'm an IT architect, the idea that I can spend less money and get higher reliability from simple cluster storage file replication should be very attractive.

Ok I admit.. I've ben preaching put your data on at least 2 places and they claim 3 :)

KVM in FC7

Harish Pillay
about KVM and Xen in FC7

I am also really glad that someone like Moshe Bar (of the OpenMosix fame) is leading part of the KVM charge. His KVM startup Qumranet is probably best poised to make this a serious contender to the virtualization crown,

HP Compaq DC5700 boot troubles.

I had problems trying to boot a freshly delivered HP Compaq DC5700 , it got stuck several times after

ACPI: Assume root bridge \_SB_.PCI0 bus is 0

with different distributions. Found the solution here

It's the pci=nommconf parameter you have to add with your kernel that does the trick.
