Alfresco :: 100% Open Source Alfresco including Enterprise Features

Alfresco :: View topic - 100% Open Source Alfresco including Enterprise Features

Open source as a business model is still evolutionary and it is true for Alfresco too. Having had an opportunity to distribute and sell services to enterprise customers, we have come to the conclusion it is not necessary to withhold functionality to have enterprises invest in services and support. Therefore, we are considering making Alfresco, including Enterprise features, 100% open source in the 1.3 Release of Alfresco in May. There will still be an Enterprise service package that includes support, maintenance, additional documentation, indemnification and warranty.

We would like your help as we consider this initiative in positioning and in branding. If you could take a moment to take our poll, we would appreciate your input. Also, if you have any comments we would love to hear them.

-John Newton, CTO

Good stuff !

NFS Talk by Olaf Kirch at Linux-Kongress 2004 in Erlangen

Dear Lazyweb

I`m still looking for the presentation Olaf Kirch gave at Linux-Kongress 2004 in Erlangen and which is being talked about in here

It's talk which Olaf ironically titled "NFS: The Greatest Networked File System" and which he focussed on by titling each and every of his slides with titles like "Nightmare File System", "Not Fully Serviceable" and "Need for Speed' :)

JFS Rocks

My PVR has JFS for it's storage.. I wanted to resize my storage area, so I modified my lvm config and then I started looking for a jfs.resizefs or similar tool
Didn't find it.. found something better ..

mount -o remount,resize /home/tv/store

And tada.. filesystem resized. That really rules !

kernel-xen0, kernel-xen-hypervisor

A couple of weeks ago I noted that in the beta's of FC5 they changed
package names ! of Xen. So now I`m doing a new install on brand new FC5 box and guess what..

This is the box that has been upgraded from beta to FC5

  root@mine2 ~# rpm -qa | grep hypervisor
  kernel-xen-hypervisor-2.6.15-1.1955_FC5

This is the one with FC5 from sctrach ..

 root@cnode1 yum.repos.d# rpm -qa | grep xen
 kernel-xen0-2.6.16-1.2096_FC5
 xen-3.0.1-4

So Fedora people .. please make up your mind :))

Starting MySQL

Yet another funky dns problem :)

/etc/init.d/mysqld start

Initializing MySQL database: Neither host 'DB-A' nor 'localhost' could be looked up with
/usr/bin/resolveip
Please configure the 'hostname' command to return a correct hostname.
If you want to solve this at a later stage, restart this script with
the --force option

More on OS X Virtualization in OS X 10.5 | www.moshebar.com

In More on OS X Virtualization in OS X 10.5 Moshe states

I really don't get all the fuss about virtualization on OS X. If you have an Apple it is because you like working with OS X, so why bother with Windows?

So, lemme "translate" .. If you are running Linux it is because you like working with Linux , so why bother with Windows in a VM ? :))

openMosix 2.6 userland tools BETA

David Santo Orcero just outed the alpha of his 2.6 openmosix userland tools.
I really really should start finding some time to work on the central git repository for the kernel tree.

Missing lots of conferences

Whow, seems like next couple of weeks will be extermely busy when looking at conferences, In the next couple of weeks there is the MySQL User Conference, Fisl is about to start and I`m going to miss all of them , them being at the other side of the ocean. I`m making my travel arrangements for LinuxTag where I`ll be helping out in the Grid and Virtualisiation track however. Not sure about my plans for the rest of the year.

Not going to all these conferences means that I`ll have lots more time to get some stuff done, such as upgrading some of my test platforms to a more recent CentOS version so that I don't have to build the MySQL Cluster binaries myselve but just use the ones provides by MySQL :)

As the weather plans on staying bad I`m also planning on more explicitly documenting how to bootstrap a hybrid infrastructure and start using centralised package mangement tools .
