OpenSPARC , Reprap

On OpenSPARC
we read
Making silicon will never be free, but we believe it's time to open up the process, and enable more bright minds to build on a proven technology core.

So with http://opensparc.sunsource.net/nonav/index.html Sun thinks they make the first step in the openhardware revolution ?

Think again Sun, and have a look at RepRap, the Replicating Rapid-Prototyper. , now get in touch and start to work together ! :)

NC-HOWTO

I converted the NC-HOWTO to docbook sgml earlier this month and now got the time to make some final fixes and updated it with some new input I got from a reader's feedback.

I already resubmitted it to tldp.org so the updated version should appear there also fairly soon.

Sysadmin tools, microformats, and data exchange

In Sysadmin tools, microformats, and data exchange Luke thinks about using SMTP as a way to talk to different tools. I was a bit to quick to utter my 2cents worth of comment and suggest that lots of people are thinking about using Jabber as a protocol to do this, only to read in the further thread on the mailinglist that I`m defintely not the only one with that idea.

ADSL & Comments

My ADSL was playing tricks on me :) Well .. seems like it should be fixed soon now some cabling issue totally degraded my link which often made it difficult to connect. That all should be solved now. I hope

I`m still not feeling 100% , I`m playing with Technocrati, Pandora , Tagcloud etc .. the first 2 seem very relevant to me. TagCloud however really doesn't work for me.

Also got to apologise to some people for not putting their comments online faster, I just forget to look at the comment section and approve them :)

FON

John keeps talking about FON Baeyens.net :: Fon

I don't get these FON guys.. how do they ever plan to build a community limited to the users of some hardware device while the rest of the planet has perfectly working alternatives and wants join their concept ?
Even when trying to mail Fon with this feedback I get no response ..

Haven't we learned from the internet that the only way to grow is to standardise ? Not hide

Show us the source !! So other people can build toolkits to run this stuff on other platforms and join evolution.

"Back online"

As of around 0600 this morning I've got an IP address again, it looks however like the speed of a 2K4 modem. It's wors, the established sessions (luckily 2 mail sessions) are working but I can't seem to get icmp / http connections to the outer world. Well it looks like I can get an icmp connection.

64 bytes from 213.193.182.1: icmp_seq=6 ttl=64 time=21.089 sec
64 bytes from 213.193.182.1: icmp_seq=7 ttl=64 time=21.209 sec

Yes that's SECONDS ! , and that's to my default gw.

Home Ill and no internet connection :(

Can it get any worse ? It's al ready frustrating enough that you are to sick to concentrate on reading stuff but even being isolated from the rest of the planet is really annoying.

I could use a week of vacation to catch up on all my todo's but being home and not being able to do anything just means

The X-Tend days are comming , for the second year in row we'll have the X-Tend days where we'll have our own internal mini conference and we teach eachother what we have been doing over the past couple of months. I`m scheduled to give at least 6 presentations , with another L2U presentation coming up half december that means I still have to prepare 7 presentations before the end of the year.
I also have about 7 DVD's to watch .. that might be a better choice these days.
